Şebnem was born to Ghilain clan in 9:8 Dragon. Though her clan spent a great deal of time traversing the southern Frostback range to avoid civil unrest by the humans leading up to the Orlesian Empress Celene's ascension, Şebnem mostly grew up in the Arbor Wilds.
A hunter by training, Şebnem is a swordswoman by trade (and a dab hand with a bow). When parts of Ghilain clan started to drift apart with the understanding that they would all reunite after the conflicts with the so-called "Freemen of the Dales" had passed, she took up bodyguard work, leading merchant caravans through the Dales to Halamshiral.
After being badly injured in a bandit raid outside Redcliffe, she was rescued by Inquisition forces stationed at the Crossroads. What little she saw of the Inquisitor has her thinking him still very wet behind the ears, but a debt is a debt and she has the worth of her life to pay.
